Constellation Design for LED-based Full-Duplex VLC

This paper investigates the full-duplex two-way optical wireless communication under M-PAM modulation where LEDs are adopted for both the transmitter and the receiver. To optimize the sum achievable rate of the two communication links, we optimize the constellation signal level and its probability distribution. Numerical results show the significant larger achievable rate from the joint modulation level and probability distribution design, over each of two individual optimizations. Moreover, the optimized constellations also show significantly larger achievable rate compared with the half-duplex two-way communication.
