Defensive control of VSWT-PMSG system against network disturbance impacts

AbstractIn the future, a lot of VSWT-PMSGs (Variable Speed Wind Turbine – Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator) will be interconnected to the power system. The characteristic of VSWT-PMSG is that the wind turbine and the power system are interconnected by back-to-back converter. For this reason, PMSG doesn’t synchronize to grid side. In a conventional control strategy, network disturbance impacts propagate DC link, and a capacitor and a parallel protection resistance in it are deteriorated. In this paper, new control strategy of generator side converter is proposed in order to realize that a network disturbance impact propagates PMSG. As a result, elements in DC link don’t absorb a network disturbance impact fully and thus quality reduction becomes slower. In this paper, such control strategy for converters is given as a basic study and it is referred as ‘defensive control’.
