Optimization of Orientation for Higher Yield of Solar Still for a given Location

Abstract In this technical note, an optimization of the orientation for higher yield of a solar still has been carried out in terms of the glass cover inclination. The effect of water depth on the hourly instantaneous cumulative and overall thermal efficiency and internal heat transfer coefficient has also been studied. Numerical computations have been made for Delhi climatic conditions. It is inferred that east-west orientation of a double slope solar still gives the maximum yield for a glass cover inclination at around 55°.
