Modern technical objects are complex systems of multilevel hierarchical structure. In the literature, problem of system structure, its catalogues and spare parts catalogues, as well as formal definition of the structure is rarely undertaken. Failure analysis of technical objects shows that at reliability field test, the knowledge about its structure is not always a priori required. It leads to the concept of “growing structure” which is created continuously while operational events appear. Formal definition of hierarchical structure compared to growing one is in the paper presented. Keywords—technical object, system, reliability field test, construction structure
