The favorable results from the internal use of sulfanilamide and its derivatives in suppurative conditions of the middle ear are widely known. However, little attention has been given to the possibilities of the local use of these substances in the treatment of infections of the ear, nose and throat. As pointed out by Kolmer,1there can be no doubt about the effectiveness of local applications of sulfanilamide crystals in the prevention and treatment of infections of superficial wounds and burns and of local peritonitis. Kolmer stated further that it would appear the local administration of sulfanilamide and its derivatives for the prevention of infection is worthy of serious attention and wider application. During the last two years we have observed many gratifying results following the local use of sulfanilamide and its derivatives in powdered form in suppurative and surgical conditions of the ear, nose and throat. Recently it has been
