Interferometric SAR coherence evaluation of canakkale intepe forest fire in 2008

This study presents preliminary interferometric analysis of SAR backscatter data to evaluate the feasibility of providing useful information for mapping and long term monitoring the effects of fire on Mediterranean forests. The analysis includes Envisat ASAR interferometric coherence products in conjunction with the burn severity products of Landsat images. The remotely sensed values are compared with the forest survey data collected by YARDOP (Rehabilitation of burned areas and fire resistant forest establishment) project for the forested areas of İntepe, Çanakkale, Turkey in 2008. In the analysis, local incidence and topography effects are also accounted for. Forest fire causes changes in both optic and SAR signal. The observed changes show that the results of both sensors are correlated with each other. This study will investigates this relationship.
