American sports across the Americas

Looking at the interaction of sports between the United States and Latin America reveals that North American sports have arrived throughout the Western Hemisphere via various carriers and have been accepted or rejected based on a combination of their intrinsic and extrinsic qualities. Rejection or resistance has rarely been hostile or violent; acceptance has often been marked by adaptation to local environment and culture. Latinos and Latin Americans have also had a reciprocal impact on North American sports as seen in the performance of individual athletes in the US, in the style of play in such sports as baseball and soccer, and in the practice of a few imported sports.
