Evaluation Index£§s Application Studies on Safety at Highway Tunnel£§s Entrance and Exit

By using EMR- 8B eye tracker system, driver£§s pupillary changes at 50 m£§distance of tunnel£§s entrance and exit were selected as research object. Comparison study of pupillary response difference in various conditions was conducted. Based on driving experiments, the evaluation index of driving safety based on variety velocity of pupil area and duration time was proposed. According to the index,when the variety velocity of pupil area transcends the range from -6 to 4 mm^2 i¤ s^-1, and duration time surpasses 0.2 s, driving is not safe, otherwise it is safe. The safe index was applied in the safe evaluation of driving speed at tunnel£§s entrance and exit.
