Design ofaContactless Battery Charger forMicro-robots

Advancements inrobotic automation technology have provided aplatform thatcanbeutilized tosupport avariety of services incommercial facilities, offices, andproduction floors. A variety ofrobots, including entertainment robots, arebeing developed toprovide services invaried environments. Inmobile robotic applications therobots generally relyonrechargeable batteries forthesupply ofpowertothedriving mechanism. While carrying outtheoperations, thebatteries getdepleted andneedto becharged again forcontinuation ofoperation. This paper presents anoverview oftheelectronics andmagnetic design considerations related toacontactless charger forthebatteries usedinmicro- robots suchasthesoccer robots. Itisbased onaninductive power transfer technology. Ofparticular interest arethetheoretical and practical factors affecting thedesign andperformance ofthe charger.
