REVERSAL OF CYANIDE BLOCKADE OF ALDEHYDE REACTIONS BY REOXIDATION WITH PERIODIC ACID

In the course of investigations utifizing the Schiff reaction for aldehydes directly on tissues as well as after the Feulgen hydrochloric acid hydrolysis, and the usual oxidations by periodic and peracetic acids, blocking reactions of various types were interposed to further confirm the aldehyde nature of the Schiff reactive material. It became important at one point to ascertain whether the usual 10 minute oxidation with 1 % periodic acid consumed all of the aldehyde producing substances in tissue sections, or if more aldehyde could be engendered by further oxidation with the same agent.
