Abstract Fluctuating side winds may have strong effects on the capability of men whether walking, cycling or car driving to sustain their course. For the situation of cars driving along a road behind a newly projected Railway Station, both situated on a fly-over, the side wind component has been measured at 1 m above the road on 1:250 model in a wind tunnel. Course deviations have been calculated by introducing the dynamics of the driver-car system. The study is a first orientation and is restricted to a specific case of vans in the category VW-buses. Conclusions are drawn regarding the probability of certain deviations.
