The use of cryptography in an election scheme is in vain if a necessarily ‘trusted’ third party is not trustworthy. In any major election it is unlikely that there is anyone who is completely disinterested in the outcome and who could be trusted to be impartial. A cryptographic election scheme is presented where security is not impaired by dishonesty on the part of any involved party.
