A Large Scale Distance Learning System for IPv6/IPv4 Hybrid Environment

A large-scale distance learning system named IPv6-class for IPv4/IPv6 hybrid environment is modeled in this paper. IPv6-class can work not only in IPv4 or IPv6 networks, but also in the IPv4/IPv6 hybrid networks. Key issues of IPv6-class, MCU served as the gateway in IPv6/IPv4 hybrid networks, including protocol conversion and queue scheduling, are discussed in details. IPv6-class has already been implemented and applied in ChinaNet and CERNET (China Educational and Research Network) in the distance learning project of west area of China since Feb. 2006, it was improved that not only can IPv6-class support large scale (more that 2000 remote sites) live lecture broadcasting and outside interaction, but also shows good extendibility, reliability and easy to use.
