Array Pattern Synthesis of Flat-topped Beam for Microwave Power Transfer System at Volcanoes

Microwave power transfer (MPT) is one of the wireless power transfer (WPT) technologies, which is of great advantage to beam forming and power transmission at middle-to-long distance as compared to other technologies. We suggest the MPT systems at volcanoes where a drone is employed as a point supplying microwave power. In this paper, we design a transmitting array antenna installed on the drone for flat-topped beams using Woodward Lawson method. This method is often used for beam forming in the field of wireless communication. However, the discussion including energy transmission efficiency has not been done, while it is indispensable to WPT application. Therefore, we evaluate the flat-topped beams obtained by this method from the viewpoints of both transmission efficiency and flatness and then find the suitable beam patterns for our system at both of 2.45GHz and 5.8GHz.
