ARC SUPPRESSION COILS - The key component of modern earthfault protection systems

This paper gives a short overview of the alternatives for the neutral earthing of high voltage distribution systems. One approach is the resonantearthing technique which is widely used in Europe. The paper highlights the benefits of this earthing method. It describes the state-of-the-art of earthfault detection in resonant-earthed systems and proposes possible options for improvement. Finally, the arc suppression coil which is the main component for neutral earthing is described in some detail.
