Optical packet switch based on Tunable Fiber Bragg Grating

This paper presents an optical packet switch architecture to resolve contention among packets. The main feature of the architecture is that, no requirement of Demux and Splitter inside the buffer as compared to most of the loop buffer based architectures. Here, Tunable Fiber Bragg Gratings (TFBGs) are used. The TFBGs inside the buffer is a new approach towards buffering structure. The implication of TFBGs inside the buffer reduces the physical loss of the loop. Thus the circulation limit is relaxed, which is a limiting factor in most of the loop buffer based architectures. Therefore in this architecture full buffer capacity can be utilized effectively.
