A CALIBRATION PROCEDURE TO ENABLE THE DERIVATION OF PROPELLER CAVITY VOLUME FROM WATER TUNNEL MEASUREMENTS

The objective of this research project was to estimate the level of propeller-induced hull vibration due to cavitation, and focuses on the evaluation of the experimental technique to determine cavity volume variation. An experiment to measure accurately the phase angles of propeller unsteady forces for two propellers is also described. The experimentally determined amplitudes of the first harmonic of cavity volume variation agreed well with the computer predicted levels.
