Study on the Urban Space Expansion Based on GIS and RS Techniques

Based on the two Landsat TM images in 1988 and 2007, the urban construction land are extracted through GIS and RS techniques on the basis of Remote sensing images classifications, and the quantity and spatial distribution characteristics of urban construction land are analyzed. The results of the study show that the north and northeast direction are the leading orientation of urban construction land expansion, account for 45% of total expansion area. Farm land and forest are the transformation of the source of urban construction land expansion, and account for 27.17% and 23.74%, respectively. The main driving force of urban land use changes are including economic progress and population, terrain and administrative factors, especially the comprehensive effect among all these factors.
