Substrate Dependence of the 2D Gas-Solid Phase Transition in Adsorbed Xenon Layers

Coexisting 2D gas and 2D solid phases of adsorbed xenon can be distinguished by means of UV photoelectron spectroscopy. This is used to demonstrate the influence of the xenon/metal interaction strength on the 2D gas ⟷ 2D solid Xe phase equilibrium on Cu(111), Ag(111) and Ru(001).
