Applying fuzzy linear regression to VDT legibility

Abstract A fuzzy linear regression (FLR) model is used to analyze a typical ergonomics problem, namely, the effects of character size vs. viewing distance on the viewing ability on a video display terminal (VDT). Since the outputs of these problems are generally fuzzy, the FLR model is ideally suited for analyzing these problems. It is shown that these types of analysis can represent the experimental data accurately without losing the meaning of the original data. Furthermore, the FLR approach can analyze the trends of both the variability and the mean of the data. The variability usually represents the fuzziness or the accuracy of the data and the mean represents the general trend of the overall data.
