Former Du Pont unit offers new instrument

TA Instruments—the recently formed Wilmington, Del., company that has taken over from the former Du Pont Thermal Analysis Instruments—is now in business and has launched its first new model. It is a low-cost thermogravimetric analysis system, the TGA 50. The TGA 50 is aimed at what the firm sees as an evolving segment of the thermal analysis market: labs with limited testing needs requiring thermal modules that provide good performance at a lower cost. A $33,000 system that includes the Thermal Analyst 2000 computer/controller, the TGA 50 is a companion product to the DSC-10, an entry-level differential scanning calorimetry system introduced last year. TA Instruments is now an employee-owned company representing a partnership between the management and employees of the former Du Pont business and Chemical Venture Partners, a New York City-based investment group.
