Atherosclerosis: the cholesterol connection.

A review of research and new developments in the field of cholesterol and its role in atherosclerosis is presented. Recent attention has focused on low density lipoproteins, LDL, which are known to carry cholesterol in the blood, as playing a key role in both the development of atherosclerotic lesions and in the regulation of cholesterol metabolism in cells other than the liver. A review of current nationwide research in this area of study is highlighted.
