Neuropsychological Interpretation of Objective Psychological Tests

principles, and consists of 208 stimulus figures varying in number, shape, size, color, intensity, and location. The test can be administered manually with the booklet version, or by an automated version. The first six subtests involve a single principle. The seventh subtest is without one single unifying principle and requires the subject to remember the correct responses for stimulus items previously presented. The client must generate hypotheses and utilize examiner feedback to modulate response patterns. There is no time limit and administration averages 40-60 minutes. After completion of the test, incorrect responses are totaled. The Category Test is strongly influenced by age and education. To address issues of age, education, and gender effects on subtests of the Halstead–Reitan battery, Heaton, Grant, and Matthews (1991) developed age, education, and gender corrections norms. The test was originally introduced as a measure of frontal lobe functioning. Although such functions are clearly tapped by the test, it also clearly measures other skills as well, making it a measure sensitive to many forms of
