By the time I read this remark, reprinted in the Education Gazette, I was well into the preparation of this paper, and so I decided that, common or not, an other piece of such criticism would have to be inflicted on a helpless public. When I read the next sentence, though, I was ready to give up the attempt, for Mr. Bar ter went on to tell his audience that he was able to deny that Australian education was poor or even worse and, he continued, that he could:
