Environmental Benchmarking of Computer Monitors

The environmental benchmarking procedure, as developed by the Design for Sustainability Lab of Delft University of Technology has been applied to high-end monitor products of Philips BG Monitors of Chungli, Taiwan. The method has turned out to be a robust one in industrial practice. The results of the benchmark have created tremendous awareness in the organization and have prompted action to improve products. On a longer time scale the benchmarking results have formed the basis of an environmental brainstorm on a new product generation. As a result of that a manyfold of green options have been incorporated in the specification of new products. This new product generation became the winner of the Philips best Environmental Product Award in 1998 and is a huge success in the market.
