CHEMICAL LASER ACTION IN ELECTRICALLY PULSED FLOWING CS2–O2 MIXTURES

Laser action was achieved in spark‐excited CS2–O2 mixtures at pressures of the order of 1 mm. The laser emission, in the region 5.0 to 5.3 μ, is attributed to CO, a product of combustion. It is suggested that the mechanism responsible for forming the excited CO is CS + O2 = CO + SO.
