If the anti-slip regulation function can be attached to the conventional automatic transmission control system, the vehicle's tractive ability, steering capability and driving stability on the low friction road will all be improved greatly with very low additional hardware costs. Therefore, the extension of anti-slip regulation function on the automatic transmission control system has an important practical significance, especially for the compact cars. The road friction identification is the key technology of the anti-slip regulation function. A road friction identification method based on the deceleration of the driving wheels is investigated and the related experimental verification and analysis are conducted. Results of the research indicate that road friction identification based on the deceleration of the driving wheels is simple in theory and easy to apply to the practical automatic transmission control system with a good performance and a lower cost.
