The Seiko ThumBoard is intended to remedy the biggest shortcoming of most handheld computers: the impracticality of entering more than a line or two of text using the built-in handwriting recognition system. Other add-on products, like the Targus Stowaway keyboard, for instance, solve the problem by providing a full-sized keyboard, but these are bulky or require a flat surface for support, robbing the handheld of some of its most valuable asset—versatility. The ThumBoard’s approach is to fit a small keyboard over the bottom of a handheld personal digital assistant (PDA). Versions are available for both Handspring and Palm models.
