Motion Capture

 Motion capture is the process of recording the position of an object, animal or person in motion.  Motion capture (mocap) systems are used in applications from film and entertainment to medical applications and academic research [1].  A mocap system can be used to diagnose the difference between healthy individuals or a diseased/injured person as well as determine the effects of therapeutic interventions [2,3].  Although, mocap systems provide essential data, they are extremely expensive [8]. A traditional motion capture system can cost up to 80,000 USD.  The popularity of motion capture for other applications, namely video games, has dramatically reduced the price of non-research based types of motion capture systems. The most prevalent and accessible of these is the Kinect for Xbox by Microsoft.
