A Self-adaptive Boundary Element Technique for 2-D Potential Analysis

ABSTRACT A technique to predict the error associated with a boundary element mesh for 2-D potential problems is proposed. Due to the boundary element discretization process, errors associated with the potential and flux are found based on coarse mesh. Utilizing the predicted error for an element, a new mesh is predicted within a user prescribed accuracy tolerance. The accuracy of the technique is demonstrated by two example problems. The proposed algorithm can be easily implemented as part of the postprocessor in a boundary element software system.
