Snowdrifting simulation around Davis Station workshop, Antarctica

Abstract This paper describes the simulation of turbulent boundary layer flow in a wind tunnel for the study of snowdrifting around Antarctic buildings. Profiles of mean wind speed and turbulence intensity, and the longitudinal turbulence spectrum, are presented. Similarity parameters proposed by other researchers are applied to the simulation. Snowdrifting around the workshop building of Australian Davis Station was investigated. Two attachments to the building were tested to find a way of alleviating a known snowdrifting problem.
