Very efficient ultra-short bends on 2D photonic-crystal waveguide on InP substrate

We present transmission spectra through a double-60/spl deg/ bend channel defined in a two-dimensional photonic crystal. The structures are patterned into a GaInAsP confining layer on InP substrate. Improved design of the corner allows to reduce losses down to 2dB for a micrometer long 60/spl deg/ bend.
