Printed microstrip antenna for harvesting energy from mobile phone base stations

A three-layer printed microstrip antenna (PMA) is proposed for harvesting energy from mobile phone base stations transmissions in the GSM900 frequency band. A half-wave printed microstrip dipole is used as a radiator while two passive elements are used to act as a director and reflector. The achieved bandwidth for VSWR 2:1 ranges from 908.5 to 942.5MHz. A design method for balanced stripline to microstrip transition is presented. The performance of the antenna, coplanar stripline (CPS), quarter-wave transmission line, and the balun were analysed through computer simulations.
