Design of UHVDC Converter Station

UHVDC converter station is a complicated system. In order to fulfill the mutual conversion function between AC and DC in converter station, and satisfy the requirements on safe and reliable operation of the system as well as the electric power quality, the converter station shall be so designed to ensure that parameters, connection and configuration of equipment or facilities in the converter station meet the relevant regulations and requirements. This chapter discusses the main aspects in converter station site selection, main electrical connection, equipment parameter determination, power distribution devices selection, general layout, etc., to which special attention shall be paid in design of UHVDC converter station.
