An Efficient Solution to Finite Buffer Non-Persistent Carrier Sense Multiple Access Protocol

Abstract In this paper we analyze non-persistent Carrier Sense Multiple Access (CSMA) protocol with collision detection (CD) considering realistic network configurations consisting of a finite number of stations, each with a finite buffer capacity. We present an analysis unique in being based for the first time on a solution involving linear equations whose number is only equal to the number of buffers in the system. It is demonstrated that this approach provides a solution with excellent accuracy and is shown to be a natural extension of CSMA models with single buffer capacity.
