Stereotaxis of the spinal cord.

A method of stereotaxis of the spinal cord is described and the historical development of spinal stereotaxy is reviewed briefly. The importance of secure head and neck fixation and neck flexion is emphasised as important points in restricting cord mobility. The advantages of posterior and lateral approaches to the cord are mentioned. The results of stimulation and recording from the upper cervical cord have been used to construct a functional map of the cord at high cervical level.
