Abstract An increasing number of managers see globalization as a major trend influencing their company's future. The author tackles these questions and suggests that the main feature of globalization will be that companies will seek a combination of co-ordinating mechanisms that will achieve the object with a minimum of interference in the freedom of nationally based operating units.
