Exploring Transit Signal Priority Error through Traffic Micro-simulation Modeling

Transit Signal Priority (TSP) can enhance transport system efficiency by reducing delay to high capacity vehicles. TSP design requires careful consideration of the circumstances for detection of transit vehicles and the process of estimating their progression through signals. This paper examines factors generating errors in TSP provision through a modeling approach using dynamic micro-simulation. Errors in calling TSP are examined and factors generating errors explored. Two factors are identified; 'time unavailable for priority' and 'queue detector interference'. Measures to address error are discussed. For the covering abstract see ITRD E140665
