By applying the methodology of fuzzy logic the operational experience of manual control can be used as the basis for implementing automatic control strategies. The paper describes the application of fuzzy logic to the computer control of a rotary cement kiln. A special language – Fuzzy Control Language – facilitating computer programming with the relevant control algorithms is outlined. Based on experience gained through fuzzy control on actual operation of cement kilns it is concluded that fuzzy control is a practicable and effective way of increasing the level of coordinative control on multi-variable industrial processes.
