Developing an Input-Output Cluster Map for the Construction Industry in Uganda

This paper presents a brief description of the Uganda construction industry, and its contribution to Gross Domestic Product. It examines its organizational structure, classification criteria, and current trend in collection, analysis and reporting of the industry’s statistics, identifies direct and indirect industrial clusters based on Systems Approach and Input-output analysis. It also gives a snap-short of vital statistics on identified clusters in terms of employment, establishments and turnover with the aim of creating a performance measurement base, and way to monitor progress from time to time. Finally a description of Uganda construction industry in terms of its sectoral structure based on clients, inputs to production and outputs (consumption) are represented on a cluster map. This gives a global picture of the industry to enable policy makers and investors to intervene in weak sectoral clusters to enhance efficient delivery of goods and services and improve overall performance.
