Three-Dimensional Fitting of Stem by Computer Analysis

Software was developed to check the fitting of the stem in the medullary canal before operation. This study describes the method of quantifying canal-fill in three dimensions, and of simulating stem implantation. The method cleary showed a relationship between stem and medullary canal that is not easily detected with conventional roentgenograms. Simulation is demonstrated in one case report. This method will help the surgeon in planning cementless total hip replacement.
