Mathematical problem solving system based on graph structure

Problem solving is a very important concept, not only as a teaching method, but also as part of the mathematics curriculum. Consequently, it is an aspect that needs to be focused on. The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) standards also emphasize the priority of problem solving skills in terms of including them in the teaching of mathematics and in teaching mathematics with problem-solving approach. Therefore, in this study, instead of memorizing solutions with formulae, it is suggested that students use a solution model based upon a graphical structure. In this study related to movement problems, firstly the problems associated with the issue are classified. Then, in the resulting classes generated in this way, 250 movement problems are analyzed using the solution model based upon a prepared graphical structure. Because the structure can solve the problem using both forward and backward chaining methods, it provides different solutions to the problems, if any, that are considered.
