TOPICAL REVIEW: Higgs production at the Large Hadron Collider: theoretical status

The current status concerning calculations of the expected rate of Higgs production at the Large Hadron Collider is reviewed. In a detailed introduction, selected features, problems and possible extensions of the Standard Model with a minimal Higgs sector are discussed. The main part covers inclusive and exclusive cross sections for gluon fusion, both in the Standard Model and in the MSSM. Higgs production in bottom quark annihilation is described in some detail, and for other production modes the essential features and the available theoretical predictions are presented.
