Jena Storage Plug-in Providing an Improved Query Processing Performance for Semantic Grid Computing Environment

This paper proposes an enhanced storage model as a plug-in of Jena for semantic grid computing. Semantic grid is built using the technologies of the semantic Web. Jena is one of the most representative frameworks for building semantic Web applications. Jena can be used for building the semantic grid and its applications. It provides a programmatic environment for RDF and OWL. Besides that, it supports a SPARQL query processing engine, and a rule-based inference engine including a storage model. Even though it supports powerful functions, there are still several issues. Especially, its storage model provides a low query processing performance. This paper proposes a storage plug-in to provide more improved query processing performance than the original Jena storage. It promises a faster query processing support in the semantic grid as well as in the semantic Web. Also, our storage is developed as a Jena plug-in, and thus it can be seamlessly connected to other modules of the Jena framework.
