TABLES OF RADIAL STRESSES FOR THE TOP LAYER OF A THREE LAYER ELASTIC SYSTEM WERE CALCULATED FOR A CIRCULAR LOADED AREA. THESE STRESSES WERE COMPUTED UNDER THE CENTER OF THE LOAD, FROM THE LOAD AXIS UP TO FOUR TIMES THE RADIUS OF THE LOADED AREA, AND FOR DIFFERENT VALUES OF POISSIONS RATIO. IF LAYER THICKNESS EXCEEDS THE RADIUS OF ONE OF THE DUAL WHEEL LOAD AREAS, STRESSES FROM DUAL WHEELS CAN BE LESS THAN THOSE FROM SINGLE WHEELS. IF LAYER THICKNESS IS LESS THAN THE RADIUS OF ONE OF THE DUAL WHEEL LOAD AREAS, THE MAXIMUM RADIAL STRESS IS THE RADIAL STRESS UNDER A SINGLE WHEEL LOAD EQUAL TO ONE-FOURTH OF THE AXLE LOAD. EXAMPLES OF THE IMPORTANCE OF POISSONS RATIO ON RADIAL STRESSES ARE GIVEN.
