Propagation characteristics for indoor broadband radio access networks in the 5 GHz band

This article presents results from wideband propagation measurements at 5.8 GHz in an office environment. Path loss and delay spread values have been estimated for transmitter-receiver separations in the range of 10-30 m. The average basic transmission loss in OLOS is close to 90 dB, while exceeding 105 dB at 30 m separation in NLOS. The typical delay spread is close to 30 ns; it increases up to 60 ns at some locations due to obstructions and larger room size. The relation between the coherence bandwidth and the time-delay spread is also shown.
