Method and apparatus for localization of a predefined parking position

The present invention relates to the detection of a predefined parking position using a 2D camera image to be reduced to a one-dimensional system for the extraction of the parking space markings or parking space boundaries. For this purpose, according to predefined and previously known display lines brightness gradients are measured within a camera image, in order to use an optical contrast of a parking space boundary with respect to the adjacent road surface or pavement to detect the parking space boundary. Different algorithms are proposed to exclude the one-dimensional brightness profiles on the presence or absence of a predefined parking position.
