Design of via hole fed printed circular disc monopole antenna for UWB systems

This paper presents a new monopole antenna for ultrawide-band (UWB) applications. A circular disc antenna is printed on a dielectric sub-strate on the same side of the finite ground plane and is fed by a 50 Ω microstrip line by using a via-hole. This antenna provides an ultra wideband return loss and fair radiation properties. A parametric study of the antenna characteristics is performed, illustrating the effect of the via-hole position and of the distance of the circular disc. A good agreement is achieved between the simulation and the experiment.
