Abstract Eel production in recirculation systems has grown rapidly in Denmark and there are now approximately 60 eel farms. Under the intensive culture conditions, fish diseases have caused substantial problems. The most important has been gill infections with monogeneans, Pseudodactylogyrus spp., but at times other parasitic infections as well as fungal and bacterial infections have caused severe problems.
