Teaching Structural Engineering in Year 2000

The paper addresses the need for changes in engineering education in order to keep pace with the changes that have and will continue to take place in the workplace. Over the past 40 years the structural engineer has gone from working at a drafting board and using a slide rule to working at a desk using a powerful computer workstation. A model curriculum for the year 2000 is presented with a discussion of the various stems. The time has come for engineering educators to employ the concepts of Total Quality and rethink engineering education. Are we preparing our students to practice in the 21st century?
